A blog post should be as long as it needs to be to get your point across.
Any questions?

Funny you should mention this. A friend told me today that she liked my blog posts because they're short and she always has time to read them. Of course, since I'm an artist, the vast majority of my blog posts are pictures with a few words. I don't suppose most bloggers can get away with that.
Tracie Thompson hey Tracie - for you I think pictures are expected, and I agree that most bloggers couldn't get away with it, unless they're photography bloggers.
The right medium for the message - what it's all about.
That one line says it all my friend - and I couldn't agree more!!! I actually wrote a rather entertaining yet very true post on just this topic over at ginidietrich blog back in January. I think you'll enjoy it and agree with my take as well - which although comes to the very same conclusion as you - has a few (cough) more words to it haha. Let me know if you'd like to read it and I'll send you the direct link.
Cheers Robert :)
Griddy ginidietrich hey Ingrid of course I want to read it. Put the link in the comments for all to see!
RobertDempsey ginidietrich Hey Robert,
I'm just silly that way where I usually ask first before I send a link or something lol. I was gonna just send it to you via DM but...

Here ya go. Hope you enjoy the read :).
Cheers
Griddy ginidietrich and thanky!
Griddy ginidietrich and that link w/out the wacky paragraph tag at the end is: http://www.spinsucks.com/social-media/how-long-is-too-long/ :)
I definitively agree. On the other hand, most of the time I prefer blog posts with 500 words or less. That's because I tend to have little time when I'm reading blogs, so when ever I see a long blog post I "save" it for later. And then, what usually happens is that I forget to read it :)
jens I rarely read very long blog posts unless they are giving me some in-depth information like a case study. Aside from that I go for faster reads as there is always a lot to read.
You know Robert that blog was a little verbose (LOL) you could have left off the last two words.

Rileyhar touche!
Actually could have done with just "as long as it needs to be to get your point across" with the question in the title :)
EugeneFarber alright gents I get the point! And very true.
When I saw the title, that was my comment. You beat me to the punch and win hands down for the ultimate post on the topic.
This, sir, is "the soul of wit"
stevescott1 haha thanks Steve. I knew you were going to say that and beat you to it on purpose. Cut off at the pass so to speak.
It's funny, whenever someone wants to guest post on Firepole Marketing, they ask us the same question, and I give them the exact same answer. :)
